My November 2019 Reads

I read 10 books in November.  The Hazel Wood was a 5⭐reread.  I loved it just as much the second time. My favorite new reads would have to be Someone We Know 4⭐ and You Were There Too 5⭐.
We Met in December 4⭐
The Confession Club 4⭐
The Queen of Nothing 4⭐
Love on the Sound 4⭐
I Will Make You Pay 4⭐
The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek 4⭐
The Family Journal 3⭐

I am learning so many new things on Instagram.  This pic is the result of a new app that I am learning to use. Please excuse the different size book covers. The app only allows 4 pics at a time.  The only way to alter the first 4 pics was to start over.  Next month hopefully I will do a better job.

I enjoyed all of the books I read this month. There was a reread, the end of a trilogy, and a few new to me authors.  You Were There Too will be out in January 2020.  Everything else is available to read now and most will have my review on Goodreads and Instagram.

Favorites Friday: A Christmas Carol

A Christmas Carol
By Charles Dickens

Who doesn't love  A Christmas Carol?  Even if you haven't read A Christmas Carol I'm sure you've seen at least one movie version...even Mickey Mouse has a version.

This is the only Dickens I have read but I am hoping to read more. Last year I enjoyed the story behind the classic in The Man Who Invented Christmas by Les Standiford.  I highly recommend it.

This year I am hoping to read Dickens and His Carol by Samantha Silva and Dickens & Christmas by Lucinda Hawksley.

If you have never read Dickens this is a good place to start.

The scarf is by Storiarts and only available around Christmas. This edition of A Christmas Carol is the Penguin Clothbound Classics edition.

Jane Austen's England A Travel Guide by Karin Quint

Jane Austen's England A Travel Guide
By Karin Quint

I am a huge Jane Austen fan. Last year I found an amazing travel guide online and knew I had to buy it.  It was from a foreign country and may possibly be my most expensive book I own but I loved it. It was Jane Austen's England A Travel Guide by Karin Quint.  I loved the book so much that when it  became available on Amazon I had to purchase the new edition.  So yes...I own 2 copies of this book with different covers.

#janeawesomewednesday is my favorite hashtag to follow on Instagram. For the month of November the prompts are all based on nonfiction works surrounding Jane Austen.

Today's prompt from @nonsense.and.sensibility is "Best of....Favourite work of Austen nonfiction". My favorite Austen nonfiction is Jane Austen's England A Travel Guide by Karin Quint.  This book is beautiful on the inside and out. Full color photos guide you into Jane's world. It covers many aspects that Austen fans will find interesting...history, road trips, film locations, maps, museum information, etc.  If you have ever considered visiting Austen locations this is the perfect book to plan your trip.

Every Austen should own this book. It is amazing.

Release Day: The Rise of Magicks

Today is the release day for The Rise of Magicks.  I loved this series.

***I received a free copy of this book from the publisher.  I voluntarily reviewed this book and all opinions are my own.

A doom or sickness has taken over the world and most of the population is gone. The people who remain fall into one of three categories....nonmagickal, good magickal, or bad magickal. Who can you trust?  Can you trust someone who is not like you?

This is a great series and the covers are beautiful. It is very different from the traditional Nora Roberts.

The Hazel Wood by Melissa Albert

The Hazel Wood by Melissa Albert
5⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

***I received a free copy of this book from the publisher.  I voluntarily reviewed this book and all opinions are my own.

The Hazel Wood is an intriguing book that leads the reader into a fairytale.  Alice and her mother, Ella, and been running from bad luck for as long as Alice can remember. When it seems that their bad luck is finally over Ella disappears. The story follows Alice as she tried to find her mother and in the process discover the truth about her past.

I absolutely loved this series. Normally I do not reread books but The Hazel Wood was an exception.  Thank you to Flat Iron Books for sending me a paperback copy of The Hazel Wood and inviting me to participate in a reread. The reread was a lot of fun. I made some new friends on Instagram while participating in a buddy read.

The sequel, The Night Country, will be published in January 2020.

The Queen of Nothing by Holly Black

The Queen of Nothing by Holly Black
4⭐⭐⭐⭐

I spent the weekend preparing for Thanksgiving and reading The Queen of Nothing. I feel like I have waited forever for this final book in the trilogy . I was excited to start this book but sad to see it end.

I really enjoyed this book and I loved this series . Holly Black introduced me to an entirely new genre to me when I started The Cruel Prince. I will be looking for more YA Fantasy books in the future.

I am not giving a traditional "review" of this book because I do not want to let any spoilers slip into my review. This is a wonderful conclusion to an amazing series. I highly recommend this series.

Favorites Friday: Little Women

Little Women by Louisa May Alcott

Little Women has been a favorite of mine since I first watched the 1949 version of the movie.  It was the first classic book I ever purchased as a teenager. The size of the book was a little intimidating so I didn't actually finish the book until I was an adult.

The March family is my favorite book family. If I could join any book family I  would want to be a part of the March family. The sisters have a beautiful bond and so much love. Marmee is wise and loving. She sees her daughters as individuals and wants them to find their own happiness with their special gifts.

Do I watch any of the other movie versions?  Yes....I try to watch every new movie at least once. I always go back to my favorite, 1949.  I am looking forward to the new 2019 version and curious to see how this new interpretation will play out on the big screen.

Someone We Know by Shari Lapena

Someone We Know by Shari Lapena
4⭐⭐⭐⭐

I loved this book!

Olivia has a problem...her son has been breaking into neighorhood houses and snooping into computers. She feels so guilty. She wants to apologize and promise it won't happen again. Her husband insists they cannot tell anyone because it is a crime so she writes an anonymous apology letter and delivers it two neighbors. What would you do if it were your son?

Bigger problems arise when one of the neighbor's wife goes missing and the other starts snooping to find out who broke into her house.

I know a suspense should not be comical but parts of this book were funny. The gossip and rumors that come out between neighbors when the police show up. There is a lot of "he said, she said" when the police start questioning the neighbors. It held up to being a great suspense.

I really enjoyed this book and could not put it down.

This is my 4th  Shari Lapena book.  At this point I will read anything she writes.

Favorites Friday....Book Depository

Do you know about Book Depository?  I think I was pretty late to the game when I discovered Book Depository last year.

They have a large selection of Penguin Clothbound Classics, Penguin English Library, and beautiful UK covers. They also carry the Disney Animated Classics.

Nevermoor  and Pages & Co are two of my favorite middle grade series. Book Depository carries the UK editions.

Did I mention free shipping worldwide?  There is no minimum order to receive free shipping. The shipping does take a little long to get to the US so make sure to order early and check their site for shipping estimates to you.

Christmas will be here soon and books make great gifts.
