March 2019 New Release: The Library of Lost and Found

The Library of Lost and Found
By Phaedra Patrick
General Fiction (Adult)
Release Date: March 26, 2019

***I received a free copy of this book from the publisher.  I voluntarily reviewed this book and all opinions are my own.

This is a very sweet book about someone who cares more for others than she does for herself. Martha Storm has lived alone since her parents passed away. She gave up her independent life when her parents got sick and she moved back home to care for them. Martha is a volunteer at the local library and she feels it is her job to help people. If anyone needs anything she will try to help. This includes laundry, sewing, babysitting, etc.

One day she sees a man leaving a package outside the library and the package is addressed to her. She thinks this is odd but picks it up and takes it home. When she opens the package she discovers a book with a message to her from her grandmother. The problem is the message is dated after her grandmother's death.   This is the beginning of Martha trying to find answers and she finds so much more.

I really enjoyed this book.

March Classic...Matilda

Matilda
By Roald Dahl

In light of Middlegrade March, I decided to do a modern children's classic this month. I have seen the movie years ago but had never read the book.

This is an adorable tale of a very bright little girl who lives with a not very nice family. She loves books and discovers she has an amazing ability.

March 2019 New Release: Only Daughter

Only Daughter
By Sarah Denzil
Mystery & Thriller
Release Date: March 13, 2019

***I received a free copy of this book from the publisher.  I voluntarily reviewed this book and all opinions are my own.

This book is about a mother's love and how she would do anything for her daughter even if her daughter is no longer here.  Kat wants to prove that Grace did not commit suicide and she wants someone held accountable for her death.

I recieved an ebook from Netgalley for an honest review. Thank you Netgalley and the publisher Bookouture.

Netgalley review:

When 17 year old Grace is found at the bottom of the quarry the day after she disappears the police immediately call it suicide. Kat aka Katie does not believe that her daughter committed suicide. She believes her daughter was murdered. As she starts to investigate her daughter's life she starts learning a lot of secrets about her family and friends. Did she really know her daughter? Does she know her husband? Does she know herself? Was it suicide or was it murder?

I really enjoyed this book. I look forward to reading more from Sarah A. Denzel.

March 2019 New Release: The Trial of Lizzie Borden

The Trial of Lizzie Borden
By  Cara Robertson
True Crime
Release Date: March 12, 2019

***I received a free copy of this book from the publisher.  I voluntarily reviewed this book and all opinions are my own.

This is a a great day by day account of the trial. It is amazing the differences in a trial in 1893 compared to a trial in 2019. The way that Lizzie and the female witnesses are handled and questioned is very different.  If you love true crime books this is a great book to read. I feel it is a similar style to the Ann Rule books I have read.

I received an ebook from Netgalley for an honest review and I won a paperback copy on goodreads.

Netgalley review:

Cara Robertson has studied the Lizzie Borden Trial for the past 20 years. She gives a day by day account of the Lizzie Borden trial including pictures and quotes from the people involved.

Andrew Borden and his wife Abby Borden were found murdered in their home in August 1892. There were only 2 other people in the home that day; their maid, Bridget Sullivan, and Mr Borden's youngest daughter, Lizzie. His eldest daughter was out of town that week. There were no witnesses.

I found this book very interesting. Some of the facts and changes in people's stories is amazing.

Thank You Netgalley, Goodreads, and Simon & Schuster for the opportunity to read and review this book.

Expected Release Date: March 12, 2019

Jan & Feb 2019 Classics

In 2019 I'm hoping to read at least 1 classic per month.

February 2019
Alice's Adventures in Wonderland

This was a fun and whimsical read. Go down the rabbit hole and meet an array of silly characters with Alice.

The Penguin Clothbound Classic is beautiful with the white background and pink print.

January 2019
The Picture of Dorian Gray

This was a dark read about vanity. Dorian Gray and everyone around him is obsessed with his beauty.  The picture seems to become an obsession for him. I am glad that I finally read it.

A little about me

I have always loved reading. As a child, I always had a book. Judy Blume and Beverly Cleary were 2 of my favorite authors. I also loved Encyclopedia Brown mysteries (I still love a good mystery).

As an adult, I had to give up reading for a while when my children were small. My twins were born 11 months before my youngest daughter so I was very busy.  I spent a lot of time reading to them but my reading had to wait.  When they went to school I returned to college to earn my Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education.

Eventually I found my way back to reading.  I read a little bit of everything and love to talk about books.

In 2019, some of my goals include reading a classic book each month, reading the Harry Potter series (completed in Feb), reading more books from Great American Read on PBS, book journaling, and keeping track of reading on Goodreads.

I look forward to introducing you to the books I'm currently reading and favorites that I have read in the past.
